Small Crochet Coin Purse

Doesn't this daisy remind you of Summer? :) This is an easy pattern for a cute little daisy coin purse!  The daisy is a pattern I used from one of my favorite blogs: Repeat Crafter Me. I did, however, change it up a bit to make it a little smaller to fit on the coin purse.  I will show you how in the pattern.  The coin purse measures about 4 inches across and is about 3 1/2 inches deep.  I made mine with cotton yarn but you can also use acrylic.  The coin purse is worked in the round and works up pretty quickly.

You will need:

Cotton yarn in any color (I used sugar n cream brand)
G Hook
F Hook (for daisy)
Yarn needle
Button (up to about 3/4 in or smaller)

Let's Begin!

Ch 18

Rd 1: 1 Sc in second Ch from hk and in ea st across (17 sc). Now, working on opposite side of ch - 1 Sc in ea st across, join to first Sc.  (34 Sc)

Rd 2: Ch 1, I sc in same St as join and in ea St around, join to first Sc (34 Sc)

Rd 3-14: Repeat Rd 2, do not fasten off.  Start on flap below.

Flap:

Row 1: Ch 1, turn, 1 Sc in ea St across back side (17 Sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, Sc in ea St across (17 Sc)

Row 3-11: Repeat row 2

Row 12: Ch 1, turn, sc in next 7, Ch 3, Skip next 3 Sts, Sc in next St and next 6 Sts.  Fasten off and weave in ends.  (The Ch 3 on this row will be used as a closure loop for the button)

Daisy:

I found the original pattern for the daisy Here at my favorite blog Repeat Crafter Me!  She is amazing and I am always referring to her blog for new ideas!  Her daisy pattern was a little large for my coin purse so I adjusted it a little.  Here's what I did:

I used a size F hook and I basically skipped her first Rd and made the petals shorter.  But the effect of the beautiful daisy is relatively the same.

Rd 1: 12 Sc in a magic ring.

Rd 2: *Ch 6, Dc in 4th Ch from hk, Hdc in next, sc in next, join with a Sl St in next St* repeat from * around.

You should end up with 12 sweet little petals on your daisy! Beautiful!!  Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.  Sew daisy to front flap of your coin purse.

Enjoy your new daisy coin purse!

You can also use a heart applique!

Crocheted Mickey Mouse Baby Toy

Lots and lots of babies being born right now!  I've been very busy making little crocheted baby gifts: hats, booties, bibs, blankets and this new Mickey Mouse toy!  This is super simple and versatile!  I am going to share the pattern for the toy with you, but you can also use the pattern for a Mickey Mouse coaster or a Mickey Mouse applique.

You can increase or decrease your number of starting DC's in order to make it larger or smaller or use a smaller or larger hook.

I crocheted this in the round using the magic ring method.

You will need:
Acrylic yarn in any color (I used Vanna's Choice in Scarlet)
Size H/8 - 5.00 mm hook
Yarn needle
Polyfil
Jingle bells (optional)

Let's Begin!

Head (make 2):
Rd 1: Magic Ring, 10 DC in magic ring, join to 1st DC (10 DC)
Rd 2: Ch 2, 2 DC in ea ST around, join to 1st DC (20 DC)
Rd 3: Ch 2, *2 DC in first ST, 1 DC in next, repeat from * around, join to 1st DC (30 DC)
RD 4: Ch 2, *2 SC in fist ST, 1 DC in next 2 STs, repeat from * around, join to 1st SC (40 SC)

Fasten off leaving long tail for sewing.

Ears (make 4):
Rd 1: Magic Ring, 10 DC in magic ring, join to 1st DC (10 DC)
Rd 2: Ch 1, 2 SC in ea ST around, join to first SC (20 SC)

Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.

Now you will need to sew the pieces together.  First, I sewed the ears to the body making sure I had the same number of st's between the ears on both Mickey's (remember you made 2 sets)  I left 8 St's between the ears on mine.  I weaved in my ends as I went - make sure to leave one extra long piece for sewing the two Mickey's together!

After sewing on the ears of both Mickey's, I then sewed the two Mickey's together, starting anywhere below the ears and working around the bottom of the head to the other ear.  Now you will need to stuff your Mickey.  Feel free to put as much polyfil stuffing as you like.  I continued to sew up around the ears, stuffing a little more polyfil in as I went.  Don't forget to add your little jingle bells before you finish sewing!  When you have completely closed your Mickey, weave in the ends and voila!  A happy Mickey Mouse toy for a new happy baby!  :)

For the coaster, I increased the beginning DC to 12 and used cotton yarn. :)

 <3 love!

Crocheted Ipad Mini Strap for the Car

We are always watching movies at our house and sometimes the kids get restless in the car.  I don't have a DVD player in my van but I do have an iPad mini.  I bought an Otter Box case for my iPad mini a while back (worth every penny because I have five kids - no explanation necessary!) and the Otter Box has a snap-on back that also acts as a stand.  Anyway, I was looking at my case and thought I could make a little strap for the iPad so that I could attach it to the back of my seat and the kids can watch movies in the car!  I felt like a genius!  So..if you have an iPad with an Otter Box like I do (not sure if it will work with other cases but you can try..) then you can make this too!  It's so simple!

What you need:

Cotton Yarn in any color
Size G / 6 - 4.25 mm crochet Hook
Yarn Needle
3/4 inch Button

The headrest in my van measures about 27 inches at it's widest point.  My finished strap measures about 30 inches and is adjustable.

Let's Begin!

Ch 100

Row 1: TRC in 4th Ch from hook, TRC in next st and in next 8 Sts, DC in next st and in every st across.  Fasten off.  Weave in ends. (10 TRC including 1st 3 chs you skipped and 87 DC)

Sew a button securely near the end of the DC side of your strap.  The TRC's act as the adjustable part of your strap.

Now I just wrapped the strap around the snap-on back of my Otter Box, snapped the iPad in and attached it to the headrest and voila!  Movies on the go!  :)

Frozen-Inspired Cluster Scarf

My family loves the Disney movie Frozen, in fact, I'm not sure who loves it more - me or my kids!  :)  I've never crocheted a scarf before but have always wanted to so I played around with some stitches and was pleased with how my Frozen-inspired cluster scarf turned out!  I made mine more child-sized to fit my 9 year-old daughter but the pattern can easily be made larger.  It's easy to follow and works up quickly - I made mine in just a couple of hours!
Hope you enjoy!  Happy Crocheting!

What you will need:

Acrylic Yarn - approx 2.5 oz (I used Vannas Choice in Aqua and Rose Mist)
Size H/8-5.00 mm Crochet hook
Yarn needle

Let's Begin!

Ch 118 (If you would like a longer scarf, just make your chain longer by adding chains in multiples of three)

Row 1: 3 DC in 4th Ch from hook, skip 2 ch, * 3 DC in next ch, skip 2 ch *, repeat from * across, 1 DC in last Ch. (38 clusters)

Row 2: Ch 3, turn.  Skip first Sp, * 3 DC in next Sp *, repeat from * across.  3 DC in last Sp.

Row 3 - 9: Repeat Row 2

Fasten off after row 9.  Weave in ends.

Tassels: (you will need 10 or 12)

Cut 4 8-inch long pieces of yarn for each tassel.  Pull strands half way through a space on end of scarf.  Fold in half, tie a knot at top.  Repeat for each tassel, spacing them evenly across end.  Trim ends so they are even.

Finished!  (Wasn't that easy?)  Enjoy your new scarf!

Izzy-Inspired Pixie Dust Pouch Crochet Pattern

My kids love Jake and the Neverland Pirates and so I put together this very simple little pattern for Izzy's little pixie dust pouch!  I actually made these for a birthday party and will use them as goodie bags.  I will be stuffing mine with little beads in the shape of gems with some beading cord.  But, you can also stuff them with gold doubloons, stickers, candy, glitter or confetti aka "pixie dust" (you can put the confetti in tiny little ziploc-type bags found in the beading section at most craft stores or even Wal-Mart) ;).  But these don't have to be pixie dust pouches, you can use them any way you'd like!  Below is the pattern.  I've included pictures to help you along the way.  These work up pretty quickly, I was able to finish one in under an hour. I used cotton yarn because I liked the look and sturdiness of cotton but acrylic yarn would work just as well. Feel free to change it up any way you want.  Stripes would be beautiful by rotating colors each round (for those of you who have the patience to weave in all those ends).  :)  Enjoy!  Happy Crocheting!

This pattern is written in US terms

Materials:
~Worsted Wt Cotton Yarn in any color (I used Peaches and Creme Yarn in   Sunshine and Dark Taupe and Lily's Sugar n Cream yarn in Rose Pink and Blueberry for pouches pictured below)
~ Size G / 4.25 mm Hook
~Yarn Needle

Please note: This pattern is crocheted in the round with a magic ring.  If you do not know how to use the magic ring method there are tutorials online or you can ch 4 and slip st to 1st ch to form a ring, then simply crochet in the center of that ring.  I highly recommend the magic ring method as it allows the ring to close completely so there are no holes in the start of your work.

Also, all rounds will be joined with a sl st to the top of first HDC of each round except in round 11 and 16 (join directions will be detailed in rounds 11 and 16).

Stitches:
st - stitch
sp - space
ch - chain
sl st - slip stitch
HDC - half double crochet
DC - double crochet

Let's Begin!

Rd 1: Magic ring, 10 HDC in magic ring, join (10 HDC)
Rd 2: ch 1, 2 HDC in each st around, join (20 HDC)
Rd 3: ch 1, 2 HDC in first stitch, 1 HDC in next st, *2 HDC in next st, 1 HDC in next st*, repeat from * around, join (30 HDC)

After Rd 3

Rd 4 - 10: ch 1, 1 HDC in each st around, join (30 HDC)
Rd 11: ch 3 (counts as first DC + ch 1), skip next st, *DC in next st, ch 1, skip next st* repeat from * around, join to 2nd ch of beginning ch 3 with a sl st (15 DC, 15 ch-1 sp)

Beginning of Rd 11

Rd 12: ch 1, HDC in first DC of previous round, HDC in ch-1 sp, *HDC in next DC, HDC in next ch-1 sp*, repeat from * around, join (30 HDC)
Rd 13 - 15: ch 1, HDC in ea st around (30 HDC)
Rd 16: ch 3, skip next st, sl st in next st, slip st in next st, *ch 3, skip a st, slip st in next st, slip st in next st* repeat from * around, join to joining sl st of previous round. (10 ch-3 sp)

Fasten off and weave in ends.  Start on cord below.

Cord:

With brown (dark taupe) ch 120, DO NOT Join.  Fasten off leaving a long tail.  Weave cord through Rd 11 by going behind first DC, in front of next DC, behind next DC and continue this way til you bring the cord through the last space.  Now join to first ch (I add an extra knot here) and fasten off.  You can pull tight on the cord to close the pouch and the cord should be long enough to slip over the head.  Feel free to make it longer by adding more ch's.

Enjoy your new pouch!

After weaving through Rd ll, the cord should meet in the same space as where you started.
